Woman in YouTube ‘rape’ arrested over underage sex allegations

I guess this shows how far out of the loop I am. This is the first I have heard of this incident where someone apparently posted a clip of a woman being gang raped in front of her children. Youtube left the clip up for several months before finally removing it. The woman gave a few interviews where more information came out as to how this apparently happened:

The mother said she invited the boys, aged 14 to 16, to her home, where they spiked her champagne before carrying out the hours-long attack, which allegedly took place in November.

She said she only reported the rape to police last month after finding out about the YouTube footage, filmed with a mobile phone.

However, the plot thickens:

But yesterday it was revealed that the 24-year-old woman has now been arrested on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old and perverting the course of justice.

Scotland Yard confirmed it will take no further action against two 16-year-olds and a 14-yearold arrested in February in connection with the video.

Another article gives a little more information:

A woman who claimed she was raped in a video posted on YouTube has been arrested on the suspicion of underage sex and perverting the course of justice.

The woman had said in February that she was gang-raped by three teenage boys — two aged 16 and one 14 — who were arrested but later released, British newspaper The Sun reports.

A spokesperson for the Scotland Yard said the woman, 24, was arrested on March 24 and released on bail until May in relation to the alleged rape last year.

While I am certainly no legal expert, the phrase “perverting the course of justice” sounds indicative of making a false allegation or filing a false report. The fact that the boys in the alleged gang rape will face no further action suggests that the “perverting the course of justice” charge may be related to that instance. There is no clear means of reaching that decision, but it is quite interesting that a woman who randomly invited a group of young teenagers into her home where she apparently began drinking champagne long enough for them to spike it conveniently has an alleged sexual interest in boys the same age.

Now, it is possible that the boys did assault her and posted the video, although that seems rather unlikely given that there would be no legal reason to drop charges against the boys when there is unequivocal evidence that they engaged in sex with the woman. It is also possible that the boys did post the video, but are not rapists or that the woman posted the video and claimed rape for whatever reason. The situation may be so convoluted that the prosecutors could technically charge all four with sex crimes and therefore decided to drop the charges against the boys and never bring them against the woman.

Granted, that is all just my personal speculation. There have been instances where clear evidence has been ignored, but I just find it highly improbable that prosecutors would let something that got this much attention slide.
