It happens every day. In fact, it is pretty hard to avoid it. There are some things that can only be understood with a slap on the forehead. Things so mind-boggling that one wonders how humans managed to evolve thumbs while being this mentally inept. Case in point:
A Tunisian family alleges their daughter was raped during a telephone conversation with a man, a lawyer for the family said.
The 30-year-old man said he never touched the young woman. But he acknowledged he heard her scream while they were “totally into” an erotic telephone conversation — and that she reported bleeding, Al Arabiya reported.
Maha al-Metebaa, a lawyer representing the family, told the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabs the case needs careful investigation because of its unprecedented allegations. He said a medical examination had determined that the woman, 20, was no longer a virgin.
“The intercourse did take place with all its details but verbally only,” he said. “The sexual act did not really happen because the physical proximity factor is not there, yet it happened because there is a direct physical impact – the loss of virginity.”
It took me several reads to make sure I understood the situation correctly, but yes, this woman has accused a man of raping her over the phone.
Just to be clear, she is accusing a man of raping her while they were having phone sex. He was never physically in the room with her, never touched her, only heard her voice, and yet she has accused him of rape.
Hmm just wow, if this flies in court, we’d have to ask ourselves what kind of evil fantasy world we just entered. Is it Cool World or Gotham City or something for things to be so weird?
Remember that this is Tunisia, not someplace in the West, and a whole different set of cultural assumptions apply. One assumption is the complete passivity and powerlessness of women vis-a-vis men. Come to think of it, that is a base assumption of feminism. So feminism and Arabic culture share a base assumption about gender relations. Not a very flattering observation about feminism.
“So feminism and Arabic culture share a base assumption about gender relations.”
I wonder why feminists hate Arabic culture so much if that’s the case?
“I wonder why feminists hate Arabic culture so much if that’s the case?”
The crimes you hate most in others are your own.
The feminst concept of patriarchy describes a Biblical culture, and also a Latin culture perhaps, but only indirectly applies to Western Europe, for obvious historical reasons. Feminists nevertherless assert that these cultures are the basis of Western culture. Probably they are just historically illierate, because that misconception is common; perhaps it is simply disingenuous.
Arabic culture .. says it all
I do not see how this in any way informs us about Arabic culture.
