It happens every day (in this instance, twice in a day). In fact, it is pretty hard to avoid it. There are some things that can only be understood with a slap on the forehead. Things so mind-boggling that one wonders how humans managed to evolve thumbs while being this mentally inept. Case in point:
32-year-old Jennifer L. Rice had requested that her children … all under age 10 … be able to come to the jail to visit her.
But deputy prosecutor Grant Blinn opposed the request, saying Rice has been trying to chip away at a court order restricting her contact with children.
Superior Court Judge Vicki ruled Rice was forbidden to have any contact with minors, including her own children, following her arrest in August. Rice later convinced a judge to allow her to call or write her own kids.
Rice is charged with more than a dozen sex crimes involving two boys, including kidnapping a 10-year-old former student for the purpose of having sex with him.
When one is charged with raping a 10-year-old boy multiple times there tends be an assumption that one lacks any real self-control, particularly if one kidnaps the boy in the dead of night and plans to take him to Idaho (although I am mildly curious as to why she chose Idaho). Reasonably speaking, one is not safe for children to be around, especially not one’s own children, over whom one would have much control.
Although, good job on the judge’s part for not allowing any contact. The letters and calls can be manipulative, but they can also be screened, monitored or not given to the children at all.
