Boy’s suicide should be lesson for all to open up about depression — Four suicides involving such young victims in such a short time span is rare in Illinois. Between 2000 and 2007, there were a total of eight cases involving children ages 10 to 14, according to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. But the recent string of youth suicides has Illinois lawmakers considering several measures to prevent future tragedies, such as providing more funding for mental health screenings and prevention programs at earlier ages.

Child care worker arrested for sex with minor — Maricruz Torrez, 33, of Merced was arrested by the Merced County Sheriff’s Department on several charges of unlawful sex with a minor. She was booked into Merced County Jail and remains there on a $300,000 bail, said sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie. Torrez works as a social/child care worker at Creative Alternatives in Delhi and was responsible for watching over the boy. The boy had been placed into the foster care center by a social program out of Santa Clara. He has a history of running away and it was not unusual for him to be gone days at a time, MacKenzie said.
Church ‘not liable’ for sex abuse — The Catholic Church is not liable for the sexual abuse suffered by a man over 30 years ago, the High Court has ruled. He said he was abused as a boy by Fr Christopher Clonan while he served at Coventry’s Church of Christ the King. Police believe Clonan died in 1998. Mr Justice Jack said he was satisfied the essence of the man’s evidence was true and that he was sexually abused. But he said the Church was not liable as the man, now 45, cleaned for Clonan “which was not a priestly activity”. Mr Justice Jack found in favour of the Trustees of the Birmingham Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church, who had denied liability. The man, who can be identified only as Maga, has learning difficulties and has never worked.
Gender discrimination. I got rejected today because — I’m a male. Called about a part time job about 20 minutes from my house that my mother had emailed me about. The guy on the phone said I’m sorry but we are looking for a woman. It’s an all female facility and the doctor is not always there to go into the rooms with the nurses, therefore, due to DHS and other rules they are only looking to hire a female nurse. He went on to apologize, and even said, I know it’s hypocritical because if I said the same thing to a woman that I’m saying to you I would be facing a lawsuit in the morning. I told the guy that I understood and wished him luck finding someone to take the job. But I’m a little pissed off about it because he’s right. And women can work in all male facilities but men cannot work in all female facilities. I wasn’t exactly sure what type of job it was. I just knew what I heard from my mother that it was a small facility for adolescent’s with drug and alcohol abuse problems. Had I known it was an all girl facility I probably wouldn’t have called. I wouldn’t want to put myself in that type of situation in the first place, but damn that is discriminatory.
Juries recommend death for couple who killed 11-year-old boy — Two juries have recommended the death sentence for both Raul Ricardo Sarinana, 42, and Cathy Lynn Sarinana, 32. That is some mugshot by the way. She looks like a thumb. Anyway they were recently convicted in the torture and abuse murder of their 11-year-old nephew Ricky Morales. Ricky and his brother Conrad were sent to live there after their mother was sent to jail on felony charges. Ricky was killed on Christmas of 2005. Prosecutors believe that Ricky already had internal injuries from previous cases of abuse and could not eat a meal that had been prepared. The human thumb was offended and Uncle Scumbag forced Ricky to clean the bathroom. when Ricky wasn’t doing a good enough job Sarinana kicked the child. Then he threw Ricky in a closet and stomped him when he tried to get out.
Kate Winslet and The Reader: Is it Sexual Molestation When an Adult Woman has Sex with an Adolescent Boy? — While watching the film last night, I struggled to understand the story the director was trying to tell. I told my wife I would have to read the book to really understand the angst felt by the characters in the movie. I just didn’t believe the characters in the movie. Yes, Kate Winslet is beautiful and a great actress.
Was she believable as Hanna? I don’t think so. Like Kimmel says, it is very hard to believe that “Hanna would rather be imprisoned for committing war crimes at Auschwitz than admit she can’t read.” Perhaps more importantly, the film’s portrayal of the sexual molestation of the 15 year old boy as a love affair is ridiculous.
Male domestic abuse doubles in four years — Organised by Fife Male Victims of Domestic Abuse Working Group, the briefing, to be held in the Touch Community Centre, will relate the difficulty men have in finding support for themselves and their children. The group’s Freedom of Information request to Fife Constabulary show that the number of reported incidents of domestically abused men has more than doubled in the last four years, from 213 to 463. This is in line with Scotland-wide police statistics which show males on the receiving end in one of eight reported incidents – although government research has shown that men are much less likely to report being victims of domestic abuse.
Male teachers face boundary burden — When a female student stays inside for recess or needs extra help, Stephen Kapulka makes sure his door is always open. “I’ll make sure my bases are covered, that I’m not alone with anybody,” said Kapulka, a sixth-grade teacher at the Morse Pond Elementary School in Falmouth. It’s not something Kapulka may have thought about 11 years ago when he started teaching. But cases in recent years of inappropriate teacher-student relationships have heightened that kind of caution for both the teachers and their supervisors, Kapulka said this week.
