For Colored Men Fatigued by Movies About Colored Girls — It took a brief but blunt conversation with a female colleague and friend to reinforce my already strong opinions about director/actor Tyler Perry and his newest film For Colored Girls. Although I was predisposed to expressing mock shock that Perry has produced another film that makes African American men look like a collection of morally bankrupt, emotionally empty, self-absorbed, hedonistic, conniving nut jobs who are hell bent on abusing black women, my progressive friend made me realize to an even greater degree that Perry doesn’t want or need my sympathy or money.
Health Check: The boy who was raised a girl — When anyone has a baby the first question everyone asks is: “Is it a boy or a girl?” Biologically it is sex hormones, physical appearance and the sex chromosomes – XX for a woman, XY for a man – which dictate whether someone is male or female. But what happens if you bring up someone who was a boy as a girl? There was a case just like this in the 1960s, a case which ended in tragedy.

Sexual violence has been used as a weapon by all sides and no-one is immune. Southern Highlands Province police commander Teddy Tei told AAP the gang of women attacked the schoolboy just outside the provincial centre of Mendi on Friday. “This is a serious matter and police are trying to identify who these animals are,” he said. “More than 10 women with kitchen knives attacked him and four women had sexual intercourse with him”.

Sex abuse victim awarded $2.5m damages — A victim of a paedophile music teacher has been awarded almost $2.5 million in damages by a judge who found he had been “crippled” by his psychiatric injuries. Gary Maxwell Featherstone, who lived at Chatswood in Sydney’s north, pleaded guilty to 12 sex offences involving indecent acts against four boys aged between 11 and 14 in the 1980s. He is serving a minimum jail term of seven years.
Utah: Male DV Victims in Support Group — An abused spouse is arrested when police arrive on the scene. Another abused spouse sees charges dropped against the abuser because of “insufficient evidence,” even though the abuser admitted guilt to cops and the court. These situations are real, but the victims of these abusive relationships weren’t women—they were men, men who now have a support group created by a therapist trying to expand the discussion about what constitutes domestic violence and who its victims are.
