Beaverton man will serve 5 years in prison for sex abuse of high school exchange student — A Beaverton man who sexually abused the high school exchange student he hosted last school year was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison. Craig Steven Ley, 51, facing five counts of first-degree and five counts of second-degree sex abuse, took a plea deal last month and pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree sex abuse. Washington County Judge Eric Butterfield sentenced Ley Wednesday afternoon, granting the sentence Ley and prosecutors agreed to in the deal.

Conviction of Florida man in Queens child rape case overturned on appeal — A state appeals court has overturned the conviction of a Florida man who’s spent nearly four years in prison for raping his underage sister-in-law in Queens. The four-judge panel said Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise should have let jurors at Luis Gomez’s 2008 trial hear the testimony of a married couple who say the girl told them she concocted a story of abuse.

Cops: Woman raped boy, 13, she met online — A 36-year-old California woman has been arrested on suspicion of child molestation and rape for allegedly flying across the country to have sex with a 13-year-old boy she befriended online, authorities said Friday. Rachel Ann Hicks, of Lake Forest, was taken into custody Friday by Orange County sheriff’s investigators. A Maryland state trooper contacted an Orange County sheriff’s investigator on Tuesday and reported that the woman initially “met” the boy in September in an X-Box live chat room.

Father Mel Thompson cleared of sexual allegations — A Centennial priest suspected of sexual assault in the 1970s has been cleared by church authorities. Father Mel Thompson, of Centennial’s St. Thomas More Parish, was suspended last April after church authorities received a tip from an adult male that Thompson sexually assaulted him in the early 70’s. Church authorities investigated the claims of the accuser and came to a unanimous decision Thompson had done nothing wrong.

Gang Members Make Up Half Of SD Male Juvenile Arrests — Nearly half of the arrested male juveniles surveyed in San Diego County in 2009 were current gang members, according to a study released today by the San Diego Association of Governments. Of 124 male juveniles questioned within 48 hours of being arrested, 45 reported current gang membership, compared to 20 percent of adult males, 15 percent of adult females and 13 percent of juvenile females. The report was the last of four put together by SANDAG’s Substance Abuse Monitoring, or SAM program over the past year.

Tony Walsh — who has been defrocked — was attacked at the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise, Co Laois, on Sunday morning. The attack occurred exactly one month after the 56-year-old was jailed for 16 years following sexual attacks on three young children more than 20 years ago.

Male rape case may be China’s first — A Beijing security guard has been convicted in what may be China’s first prosecution of a sexual assault on a man, a court said. The guard, 42, was working at the Haosha Sports Center in the Chaoyang district, court spokesman Wang Liying told the China Daily Tuesday. Late on the night of May 9, the guard raped the 18-year-old victim in their dormitory. The victim called police, who detained the perpetrator the next day.

Woman gets jail term on statutory rape conviction — A former Lockport woman was sentenced today to a year in Niagara County Jail for having sex with a 14-year-old boy. Debra M. Wise, 31, now of Wilson, had pleaded guilty to third-degree rape, also known as statutory rape, and endangering the welfare of a child. She was caught with the boy on the night of June 4 in a wooded area off West Genesee Street in Lockport by a police officer who heard noises while questioning another teenager who appeared drunk.
