Monsignor Lynn sentenced to jail for role in church sex abuse — In a soft and clear voice, disgraced Catholic Monsignor William Lynn stood Tuesday before a packed courtroom and apologized for the years of sexual abuse a young man suffered at the hands of defrocked priest Edward Avery, whom Lynn transferred to the boy’s parish despite knowing that he had abused another boy. “I did my best,” said Lynn, 61, who served as secretary for clergy for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia from 1992 to 2004.

Report finds black gay males in US worst hit by HIV-AIDS — HIV-AIDS is affecting black gay men in the United States on a scale unseen among any other group in the developed world, said a report issued Wednesday ahead of the International AIDS Conference. So grave is the crisis that in some US cities, one in two black men who have sex with other men are HIV positive, according to the report from the Black AIDS Institute, the only national HIV-AIDS think tank focusing on African Americans.
Sexually abused boy awarded compo — A sexually abused boy, who is engaging in “cross-dressing and improper sexualised behaviour”, may be driven to exploit other children more vulnerable than himself. This was one of the key factors three Queensland Court of Appeal judges considered when they decided to award the boy, who was aged five when the abuse began, the maximum $75,000 compensation. The girl (name withheld), appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Clever Tsikwa facing aggravated indecent assault charges and was convicted on her own plea of guilty. Since she is a minor, the court postponed her sentence for five years, on condition that within the same period, she should not be convicted of any offence involving sexual acts.

That agency, which handles abuse complaints involving children, could find no evidence of that abuse even though one of her victims had burns all over his body, including his penis. Wellington College teacher Bruce Roth guilty of sex abuse of five boys — A teacher at one of the country’s most prestigious public schools has been found guilty of sexually abusing five young boys. Bruce Roth, who taught maths at £30,000-a-year Wellington College until he was arrested, groomed and performed sex acts on three boys at the boarding school and two at King’s School in Rochester, Kent, where he taught previously. Roth strenuously denied the 17 charges against him, accusing his victims of conspiring against him because they did not like him as a teacher and calling one of them “sinister”.
