Alex Kelly, 15, was found on the floor of his cell at Cookham Wood Youth Offending Institution, Kent, with trainer laces tied around his neck, after hanging himself, on January 24 2012. Pronounced dead the following day, Kelly was serving a ten month sentence for theft and burglary from a vehicle.
Abuse victim tells how he helped snare perverted teacher — A MAN who was abused by his teacher as a child says it was his own son who inspired him to pursue justice. The man, now in his 30s, was targeted by perverted teacher Nicholas Quest. He kept quiet about the abuse he suffered until he started looking at schools for his five-year-old boy, and then decided he could not stay silent.
Herts police launch campaign for male rape victims to come forward — Herts Constabulary launched a campaign this week encouraging victims to access the specialist support that exists for them. The campaign, called Operation Fortitude, is being run by the county’s community safety unit – which brings together professionals from the police and county council – and will see posters put up across the county and business cards available to take away.
Jerry Sandusky sex-abuse trial: First settlement reached — A man whose testimony helped convict former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky of sexually abusing boys has become the first victim to reach a financial settlement against the university and will receive several million dollars, according to media reports. The Philadelphia Inquirer and Associated Press said the plaintiff, known as Victim 5, and lawyers representing Sandusky signed off on the deal Friday. Victim 5’s attorney, Tom Kline, did not immediately respond to an email from the Los Angeles Times on Sunday, but AP reported that his client expected to receive the money within a month.
Sex abuse victim calls for inquiry after abuse at detention centre — A victim of sexual abuse at a North East detention centre has waived his right to anonymity to call for an independent inquiry. Ray Poar, now 52, was 17 when he was sent to Medomsley Detention Centre, near Consett, in County Durham in the 1970s. He was targeted by predatory prison guard Neville Husband, who was a serial abuser of young boys. It was only when Ray secured a transfer to another facility that he could escape.
Thorsby teacher charged with rape and sodomy of a juvenile male — A Thorsby sixth grade teacher was suspended after her arrest Friday on rape and sodomy charges involving a juvenile male, according officials and court records. Court records show Jennifer Collins McNeill, 39, of Thorsby, was arrested Friday on warrants obtained by the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office. She was charged with six counts of second degree rape and two counts of second degree sodomy, court records show. McNeill was released from the Chilton County Jail on Saturday after posting $160,000 bond, according to court records.
So much pain and violence perpetuated in these stories…but they need to be heard and recognized. Though I’m happy to see that there is work being done to aid male rape survivors, and that the abusers were caught in some of these articles.
