Former detainees who say they were abused at Abu Ghraib want case reopened — Attorneys representing four Iraqis who claimed they were abused at the Abu Ghraib prison argued in a federal appeals court Tuesday that the case, which was dismissed last year, be reopened. The former detainees have claimed that employees of CACI International, a government contractor working at the prison, mistreated them with “electric shocks, sexual violence, forced nudity, broken bones and deprivation of oxygen, food and water.”

Ryan Mitchell Schaffer, 34, is charged in 2nd District Court with four first-degree felonies — one charge of aggravated kidnapping and three charges of forcible sodomy. He is accused of kidnapping the victim from a train station and forcing the victim to commit sexual acts with him over several days in July.

Former Catholic priest Gerald Francis Ridsdale, 79, has admitted his guilt in assaulting 45 children in abuse that spanned 26 years. Among his victims were the four-year-old girl, siblings he took on holiday and an altar boy. Ridsdale hid behind the Catholic Church as he abused, said a victim who was under the care of the Catholic diocese when she was indecently assaulted during holiday drives.
