Matt Sandusky speaks out about his abuse

According to the Huffington Post, Matt Sandusky will speak with Oprah Winfrey about his abuse at the hands of Jerry Sandusky. The interview is set to air on July 17 on the Oprah Winfrey Network:

In the interview, Matthew — currently married and a father himself — will describe the grooming patterns and routines he endured while being raised by Jerry and Dottie Sandusky.

The Post says Matthew will respond to Dottie Sandusky’s accustions against her husband’s victims and share details on Jerry Sandusky’s nightly ritual. He is one of six children Jerry and Dottie Sandusky adopted.

Readers may recall that Matt was originally supposed to testify as a defense witness. During the trial, he told investigators that Jerry had abused him starting when he was 8-years-old. This switch came as a surprise for Jerry and his wife Dottie.

I suspected that Jerry had abused Matt. It seems unlikely that a serial abuser would target random boys that he had to work to groom, but never a boy he had immediate access to. While I am sure it does occur, I simply find it more probable that an opportunistic offender like Jerry would offend whenever the opportunity rose.

I also find it unlikely that Dottie knew nothing about the abuse. Some abusers are good at covering their tracks. Based on Jerry’s interviews and allegations made against him, it would appear he could barely get out a sentence without sounding like a pedophile. So I do not believe Dottie knew nothing. She may have turned a blind eye to it or may not have cared, but she likely knew.

  2. There’s a good thread about this at FOX Sports right now. Dottie is on the hot seat.

  3. It will be very interesting to see if Oprah hold’s Dottie accountable. I’d be surprised if she did.

  4. Several good excerpts of the Matt Sandusky interview are up at In one Oprah asks Matt why it took so long for Sandusky to be caught. He eloquently responded with the usual “social silence” and “children aren’t believed” explanations.

I would like to add, the reason boys weren’t included in the social discourse on child sexual abuse was BECAUSE of women like Oprah, and other media mavens and feminists who see male victims as bad ratings and bad politics. She knowingly and deliberately left men and boys out of discussions of child sexual abuse for thirty years. As I’ve said before, had Oprah included boys from the beginning, Sandusky and the priest debacles would have been found out years ago.

Haven’t seen any comments about Dottie yet and don’t expect to. Oprah didn’t even mention women as perpetrators in her much touted “200 Man Show.”.
