St Francis Boys’ Home sex abuse inquiry: Second man arrested — A second man has been arrested in connection with an inquiry into alleged child abuse at a Catholic boys’ home in Bedfordshire. The 72-year-old man from Bedford was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting four children at St Francis Boy’s Home, Shefford. A man, 79, of Mundford, Norfolk, has been re-arrested on suspicion of six sexual and 14 physical assaults. The two men have been released on police bail until April.

Spain drops sex abuse charges against nine priests — A Spanish court has dropped charges against nine out of ten Catholic priests accused of sexually abusing an altar boy, court papers showed Monday, in a case in which Pope Francis intervened. The nine priests, along with two laymen, had been charged with “sexual abuse without penetration, exhibitionism, and concealment of evidence” involving an underage boy between 2004 and 2007.

Thousands raped & sexually abused in British prisons — Thousands of prisoners may have been raped or sexually abused in UK prisons, with much abuse being hidden or underreported, a report from the independent Commission on Sex in Prison has revealed. The report, completed for the commission by the Howard League for Penal Reform, showed that 1 percent of prisoners had been raped and 5.3 percent were victims of coerced sex.
