Jared Fogle, the former Subway spokesman, apparently agreed to a peal deal:
Subway spokesman Jared Fogle is expected to plead guilty to charges of possession of child pornography, Indianapolis’ Fox 59, reported Tuesday.
According to Fox59, sources said that the pitchman will accept a plea deal on Wednesday and that the U.S. attorney’s office will hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss the charges and plea deal.
He faces numerous charges of possession of child pornography after the authorities raided his home and took several computers and DVDs. The raid followed the arrest of Russell Taylor, the former executive director of the Jared Foundation. Police later charged Taylor with possession of hundreds of child pornography videos and images.
I initially assumed that the police went after Fogle due to his connection with Taylor. I thought it possible that the police raided Fogle’s home because his home computers were possibly connected to the same network as those used by his foundation or that Taylor had used one of Fogle’s computers.
However, the current situation opens another possibility: the two shared and traded images and videos. I think that is a real possibility given that there is no apparent reason for the FBI to investigate Fogle. He made no public statements incriminating himself and appeared to cooperate with authorities as they investigated Taylor.
My best guess is that Taylor either implicated Fogle or there were clear traces of trading left on Taylor’s computers. We will see what Fogle pleads guilty to tomorrow.
