The lawsuit accuses the Boy Scouts of America and its local chapter, the Northern Star Council, of three counts of negligence and one count of fraud. It states that the plaintiff, identified as John Doe 156, was abused by then-scout leader Richard E. Carroll on camping trips and Boy Scout events from 1972 to 1974.

The 35-year-old man, who is referred to in case documents only as John Doe, alleges that his scoutmaster sexually abused and battered him starting when he was about 12 years old in 1992 and that the abuse continued until 1997.

Bahle Msipa reportedly made sexual advances to the teenager after he was hired as a herdboy and was in the habit of urinating naked or undressing in his presence. Msipa, who is facing two counts of aggravated indecent assault, pleaded not guilty when she appeared before regional magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze. She claimed she was in love with the herdboy.
