Attorney: St. George’s School trying ‘to silence victims’ in sex abuse case — Past and present St. George’s School administrators have attempted “to silence victims” to “prevent a scandal” over accusations of systemic sexual abuse dating to the 1970s and 1980s, says an attorney for three St. George’s alumni who are pressing the issue. Attorney Eric MacLeish spoke in advance of a news conference Tuesday at which he and three women who say they were sexually victimized in the 1970s by the school’s former athletic trainer Al Gibbs, are scheduled to release a rebuttal to a Dec. 23, 2015, report by St. George’s School.
Children’s home former head and ex-chaplain jailed for sex abuse of boys — A former head of a children’s home run by a Catholic order who has already served 21 years in prison for sexually abusing boys has been jailed for a further nine years. James Carragher was head from 1976 to 1990 of St William’s – an approved school for boys with behavioural problems in Market Weighton, East Yorkshire, run by the Catholic De La Salle order. Carragher, 75, was jailed for seven years in 1993 and a further 14 years in 2004 for offences he committed at St William’s.

Ohio Woman Sentenced To Life In Prison For Role In Daughter’s Rape — A mother in Ohio has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to charges of child abuse, endangering children and rape. Jeanie Mae Carpenter admitted in court on Dec. 17 that she helped her boyfriend, James Kirksey, rape her 12-year-old daughter, WTOV reported. The girl told a relative in July about the abuse, which occurred on multiple occasions over the course of two weeks, according to Metro. On at least one occasion, Carpenter held her daughter down while Kirksey, 32, raped the girl.
SFU Advocacy for Men & Boys club criticised as “anti-feminist” in open letter — The SFU Advocacy for Men & Boys (SFUAMB) club have become the centre of an ongoing controversy following an open letter penned by the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies student union (GSWSSU) claiming the club is “using men’s issues as a way to attack feminism.” The letter was published on the union’s WordPress page on December 7, and was addressed primarily in response to SFU AMB’s November 8 event, “Toxic Masculinity & TOXIC FEMININITY.”
Soldier admitted abusing boy but was never prosecuted, inquiry told — A serving soldier admitted abusing a boy from a residential home run by Anglican missionaries in Northern Ireland but was never prosecuted, a public inquiry lawyer said. The serviceman first came to Northern Ireland at the start of the Troubles in 1969 and visited Manor House Children’s Home near Belfast to take children on day trips and play football, his testimony to police said.

UN Faces Allegations of Peacekeeper Sexual Abuse of Boys as Young as Nine — New sexual abuse allegations have surfaced against UN peacekeepers in Central Africa Republic (CAR) as officials investigate previous claims. “The blue beret or the bleu helmet you wear represents hope for the vulnerable population of the CAR,” declared Special Representative Parfait Onanga-Anyanga. There are now 26 sex abuse allegations against the peacekeepers. The UN press release or news story did not relate the new details or ages of the victims.
