Boys’ club ‘a sitting duck’ for child sexual abuse — A convicted child sex offender has described an Anglican boys’ society as a “sitting duck” for predators. Former Tasmanian archdeacon Louis Daniels, 68, on Thursday gave evidence to a royal commission investigating the Church of England Boys’ Society across the island state and also in Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide. Daniels, who has been jailed for his abuse of 11 boys and has settled a civil claim with another, was asked about the culture within the church and whether its branches helped facilitate his offending.
Catholic Church in Mexico Protecting a Priest Accused of Sexually Abusing 100 Children — Mexico’s Catholic Church is being accused of protecting a priest who allegedly sexually abused about 100 children. During a press conference, a letter written by the mother of one victim was read aloud, according to EFE (via Fox News Latino). It was directed to Pope Francis, who is scheduled to visit Mexico in February. In the letter, the mother asked the pontiff for justice for the victims in order to assure that “this doesn’t happen again,” the news outlet added.
DOC Secretary Ed Wall resigns amid FBI investigation into state youth prison — Wisconsin Department of Corrections Secretary Ed Wall submitted his letter of resignation to Gov. Scott Walker on February 5 and will be replaced by former DOC Secretary Jon Litscher (’99-’03) later this month, the Governor’s office announced Friday. The change comes amid an investigation into abuse allegations at Lincoln Hills School, the state’s youth prison located north of Wausau, and comes on the same day 27 News confirmed the FBI is now leading the investigation into the facility.
House passes child porn and child abuse legislation — The state House of Representatives voted Tuesday evening to pass two bills that would add more prison time for those who intentionally injure or kill children in New Mexico, as well as a bill that would strengthen child porn laws in our state. The pair of bills would make life in prison possible for somebody convicted of intentionally abusing any child under 18 to the point of death, which is outlined in House Bill 69. House Bill 68 triples the prison time for somebody who intentionally injures a child but doesn’t kill them. House Bill 68 passed a House vote, 61-1.

A Royal Commission into the state’s child protection system, prompted by McCoole’s actions, heard evidence on Thursday from a male Families SA youth worker who said he and his male colleagues now had a heightened fear of being accused of inappropriate behaviour by vulnerable children in their care.

Paedophile accountant kills himself hours before facing court — The accountant had pleaded guilty to 14 sexual offences which including him sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy in Thornes Park, Wakefield. Fiek, 40, was also facing charges relating to filming the abuse as well as possessing vile images of child abuse. Two other men Andrew Lynes, 51, from Huddersfield, and James Bould, 34, from Dewsbury, were handed jailed terms totalling 26 and a half years after pleading guilty to serious sexual abuse involving two teenage boys as well possessing and distributing indecent images of children.
Supervising social worker in case of abused Palmdale boy can have his job back, judge rules — A judge has allowed a supervising social worker who was fired amid an investigation into the death of an 8-year-old Palmdale boy to have his job back until a court hearing on the employee’s firing is held in May. Greg Merritt was fired from the Department of Children and Family Services in September 2013 following the murder of Gabriel Fernandez, who was allegedly tortured by his mother and her boyfriend.
‘We didn’t share boys’ — TWO convicted child sex offenders told a royal commission they denied sharing boys or that there was a paedophile ring inside the Anglican Church. Former Anglican priests Garth Hawkins and Louis Daniels told the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse they did not discuss their predilection for young boys with other priests. Former Burnie Archdeacon Daniels, who has been convicted of sexual offences against 11 boys, said he had suspected some priests were attracted to young men or had behaved inappropriately, but didn’t see or hear anything to substantiate it.
