Boy’s rape filmed in notorious Dolphin Square — A police raid on Dolphin Square in London’s Pimlico area in 1985 uncovered a small-scale film studio in the living room of a first-floor apartment. Officers were acting on a tip-off that a boy, aged about 11, had been taken into the premises against his will. A forensic examination came to nothing. However, a few months later a sickening sex video was seized in the West End in which an officer recognised the flat as the location.

Child sex abuse survivor from Worcester is ready to climb Kilimanjaro to help other survivors — A COURAGEOUS survivor of child sex abuse from Worcester had in a sense already climbed a mountain by speaking out about his ordeal and facing his abuser in court. But now Tom Leavesley, formerly of Diglis, Worcester, is literally climbing a mountain to help other survivors so they do not suffer in silence as he did.

Federal judge: Ex-Yakima priest must pay sex-abuse victim $5M — A federal district court judge has issued a $5 million judgment against a priest who served in the Catholic Diocese of Yakima in the 1970s and ’80s. The civil lawsuit, brought by a man known as C.S. in court documents, alleged that the Rev. Dale Calhoun sexually abused him beginning in 1977 when he was 12 and ending when he was 17. The settlement is the largest civil judgment against an individual priest in Central and Eastern Washington, according to attorneys Bryan Smith and Vito de la Cruz of Tamaki Law. Continue reading

5 Reasons Why Feminists Don’t Say Much About The Horrors Of Prison Rape — We’ve heard a lot about rape culture on college campuses and seen quite a few highly determined domestic violence and sexual assault advocates fighting on behalf of those who are affected. But it’s hard not to conclude that much of their dismay toward the culture of rape and violence possesses a degree of gender bias that should concern us all. One thing that is consistently off the radar screen is the issue of prison rape.

Bullfinch: Board’s error as abuse review saw 50 boys counted as girls — BOYS at risk of being targeted for sex by gangs of men in Oxfordshire are being forgotten, say support workers. A Serious Case Review into child sexual exploitation (CSE) case Operation Bullfinch, published earlier this month, identified 373 child victims who may have been sexually exploited across the county. The report said they were all girls but it has now transpired nearly 50 of them were boys.

Comics Like Batgirl Shouldn’t Require a ‘Good Feminist’ Seal of Approval — A backlash against a Batgirl comic book cover some perceived as sexually violent has caused the cover to be withdrawn — leading to a backlash against perceived censorship. Sexism in popular culture is a valid concern. But when feminist criticism becomes an outrage machine that chills creative expression, it’s bad for feminism and bad for female representation. 12 per cent students exposed to abuse in schools: Study — A study conducted on more than 4,000 students has revealed that a tenth of children in UAE schools are exposed to abuse or violence, while such exposure is less in homes. It also revealed that male children are more vulnerable when it comes to abuse.

Attorney: L.A. schools pay ‘largest’ public settlement for child abuse at $139 million — The Los Angeles public school district will pay more than $139.2 million to the families of 81 children allegedly abused by an elementary teacher now serving a prison sentence for lewd conduct, officials said Friday. John Manly, one of the plaintiffs’ attorney, called the amount “the largest settlement in the history of the United States against a public entity involving child abuse.”

Boy whose mother burnt him with an iron, threw him down the stairs and broke his fingers with a hammer shares his harrowing story — A boy who grew up suffering daily abuse at the hands of his own mother has shared his horrific story. Craig (not his real name to protect his identity), from Yorkshire, said he received so many broken bones and serious injuries as a boy that he knew all the names of the nurses at his local hospital. He was so abused he thought daily beatings were a normal part of growing up. Continue reading

After Serving 10 Years For Rapes He Didn’t Commit, Man Is Vindicated — A Brooklyn man who spent ten years in prison for rape was cleared of his conviction yesterday. Tyrone Hicks finished his ten-year sentence seven years ago, but never stopped fighting to prove his innocence. Hicks’ troubles started in 1998 when a man known as “the Bronx rapist” was terrorizing women in the area.

Ex-nun ‘denied abuse at boys’ home’ — A former nun interviewed by police investigating alleged abuse at a children’s home in Northern Ireland has said she loved the young people, a public inquiry heard. In the 1970s, the ex-nun worked at Termonbacca boy’s home in Londonderry, run by the Sisters of Nazareth religious order, and admitted witnessing sexual acts. But the woman denied causing physical or sexual harm.

FBI: 100s have contacted us on pedophile teacher as possible victims or offering information — Hundreds of people have contacted the FBI about a teacher suspected of drugging and molesting boys during a four-decade career at international schools on four continents, greatly expanding the potential number of suspected victims. The FBI said last month that William Vahey had molested at least 90 boys, whose photos were found on a memory drive stolen by his maid.

‘Judgement day has come today’: Scoutmaster accused of sexually abusing children is jailed for 12 years — A Scoutmaster who was alleged to have been part of a secret paedophile ring in the 1970s has been jailed today for 12 years. Mold Crown Court heard how Martyn Tucker, 68, of Sealand Road in Chester, knew his day of judgement would come, particularly when the Jimmy Savile scandal came out. Police finally knocked on his door last summer after one of the victims, who said Tucker stole his soul, had the courage to come forward after he realised that those prosecuted for sex offences in Wrexham children’s homes went back further than the offences committed on him when he was a boy. Superior Court Judge Michael Wolverton will decide Kimberly Ann Mockta’s sentence.

Female MP abused boy in care — She is alleged to have forced a boy in care to perform a “vile” sex act at one of a series of drug-fuelled parties in Westminster in the Eighties where boys and girls as young as 13 were allegedly abused. Last night her alleged victim told the Sunday Express: “I want justice.” Andrew Ash, now 45, said he has given Scotland Yard the name of the former MP. We cannot name her for legal reasons.

Fighting for male victims for sex abuse — I have been working with and supporting male victims of childhood sexual abuse and rape as adults since 1996. Are there male victims of sexual violence in this country? Definitely. How big is the problem? We are not completely sure. There has never been any research done on the sexual victimisation of men and boys in New Zealand. There is also a lack of or no research on female offenders in New Zealand.  Continue reading

Calls for more support for male survivors of child sex abuse — Jay was just ten years old when it started. First, it was a stranger who abused him. Then the stranger became a family friend, and others followed. Terrified and wracked with shame, Jay didn’t breathe a word of what happened to anyone for over 25 years. Even today, after years of counselling, he hesitates to say the words. “I was [a victim of] a paedophile network in the 80s and I was offended by at least ten offenders that I can remember,” he says.

Hayward school aide charged with sexually abusing boy — A female after-school program coordinator at a Hayward Catholic school has been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing a male student beginning when he was 12, police said Monday. Police said they began their investigation on Nov. 18 after they were informed of a possible incident of child sexual abuse. They said they learned that the victim, who is now 14, has allegedly been in a sexual relationship with the suspect, 29-year-old Mia Cummings of Oakland, since he was 12.

Indictments detail even more abuse endured by boy found with dead chicken around neck — Grand jury indictments against a Union County DSS worker and her boyfriend show the alleged abuse against a boy in their guardianship is worse than initially uncovered. Those indictments now say Wanda Sue Larson, a since-fired Union County DSS Child Protective Services supervisor over investigations, not only handcuffed a boy under her guardianship to a porch with a dead chicken around his neck, but also restrained him to a piece of railroad track, permanently injured the boy’s pinkie finger and failed to get him medical attention for a broken wrist, cut on his face and burn near his eye.
